Don’t you just hate it when you go to press your favourite fabric and it wrinkles up on you because you FORGOT to change the heat setting on your iron?…..or you just didn’t realise it would be so darn heat sensitive! Or worse still, it MELTS a hole in it! Arrrrgggghhhh now why didn’t I just turn the heat down on my iron? Anyway….if this has happened to YOU….there IS a great solution! Use a Rajah Cloth!!

So…..now you are wondering what on earth a Rajah Cloth is? Well it is a chemically treated pressing cloth! BUT….it is more than that….I tell you, it is MAGIC! Well….it seems that way anyway! LOL! The combination of heat and steam releases the chemicals and that makes for a super successful pressing job, either for removing deep wrinkles (Pity it doesn’t work for facial wrinkles! LOLL) or for permanently setting pleats or creases.

Use heat and steam to press all sorts of heat sensitive fabrics that you couldn’t even dream of touching with anything other than a cool iron! I’ve even used it to press Vinyl without any melting! PLUS you don’t get any shiny patches like you sometimes do when pressing certain fabrics with too hot an iron!

ONE thing to remember though, (and perhaps this is brand related as I have seen some that say you CAN wash?) BUT the one I have recommends to NEVER wash it as that will remove the chemical treatment……BUT you can keep on using it and using it!….. Mind you, it does get pretty grubby looking after a while….you should see mine! It might be time I replace it with a nice clean one?

All in all I LOVE this cloth and often wonder how I ever managed without one! Definately one to add to your list of ‘Must Haves’ for your sewing supply kit!

There are a few different brands out there and a google search will quickly turn up lots of places to get one! My next one I am going to get from The Haby Goddess:

The Rajah Presing Cloth

Rajah Cloths available at The Haby Goddess

The Haby Goddess is based on the outskirts of The Dandenongs in Victoria, Australia however they do post worldwide if you happen to live outside of Australia, unlike ME! LOL……plus If you are REALLY lucky, you may also find them at your local haberdashery store! 🙂

Happy Sewing!
Christine

  1. Sounds like a wonderful product. I just use an ordinary cotton cloth I made myself. BTW if you ever find the miracle cloth for smoothing out face wrinkles I’ll be the first customer. I’m even willing to fly over to get one. LOLLLL

  2. That is what I used to use too but the Rajah Cloth beats it hands down! As for the face wrinkles……If I invented a cloth for removing those I would be able to FLY over to deliver it to you personally because I would be RICH! LOLLLL

  3. Hi! I have used a rajah cloth for years on all my ironing. Works great especially in keeping my husbands pants neat and crisp, never shiny.
I recently gave one to a friend and have been looking for another one but cannot find it in the local fabric stores. They have never heard of them, they dont know what they are missing.
We use lots of skirts and this is great for setting pleats. When I mend clothes for my friends they ask me what did I do to the clothes, it looks brand new! The old pants look as if they just came back from the rack at the department store! 🙂
I am a huge fan of this product and would recomend it to anyone who sews or just cares for the family laundry.

  4. Hi, I’ve just found your blog. I was googling to find out if I’ve been using my Rajah cloth the correct way and it came up with you!! I’m not a great sewer but I just love your handbags. Do you sell them at all?
Oh…… I forgot, I have the writing facing up when I use the cloth, is that the correct way?
    Regards Lynn.

  5. Your new website and tips are fantastic! Love everything about it. I think I found a Rajah cloth on Amazon that I am going to order.

  6. Thank you Chris! I’m so glad I checked out “Tools of the Trade”. When I read Rajah cloth I envisioned a really sexy sultan arriving on a carpet holding a magic lamp that I could rub and get three wishes… Oh dear! I am getting carried away again… So, the reality IS the sexy sultan had a rajah cloth but, no magic lamp (darn). He assured me the cloth would answer all of my purse wrinkling issues and of course, my purse would be pure perfection.
No ladies, I don’t do drugs! I’m just a crazy lady from the U.S. (Washington state…) I will be checking Amazon for the rajah cloth when I’m through here! 🙂

  7. By any chance, does that rajah cloth come by a sexy sultan on a magic carpet and a mysterious gold lamp with incredible powers?!?! 🙂
