Today I am happy to be able to share with you my City Slicker Pattern from the Bag of the Month Club….I had SOOO much fun being a part of the club and it’s kinda sad that July has rolled on in and there is no pattern coming into my inbox But never fear…..The club will be back running again from January next year so that IS something to look forward to! 🙂
Anyway….Back to my City Slicker Pattern. There are TWO versions to this pattern! An Intermediate version which is quicker and easier and which most sewists who have made a few bags would be able to handle ……and an Advanced version for those sewists that like a bit of a challenge! 🙂 Let’s check out the Advanced version first:

The CITY SLICKER advanced is the perfect sized handbag for a day out shopping, with loads of pockets to keep organised while you shop! It features a front twist lock pocket (perfect for your keys) and a back welt slip pocket which is handy for quick access to your phone. A top zippered closure keeps your main compartment nice and secure. Inside you will find a zippered pocket, a pleated pocket perfect for your sunglasses, 6 slip pockets, and 2 pen pockets.
Finished bag size = approx. 40cm (15 ¾”) W X 25cm (10”) H X 10cm (4”) D.

The CITY SLICKER intermediate is the perfect sized handbag for a day out shopping, with loads of pockets to keep organised while you shop! It features a front twist lock pocket (perfect for your keys) and a back slip pocket which is handy for quick access to your phone. A top zippered closure keeps your main compartment nice and secure. Inside you will find a zippered pocket, 4 slip pockets, and 2 pen pockets.
Finished bag size = approx. 40cm (15 ¾”) W X 25cm (10”) H X 10cm (4”) D.

Just what are the differences? Well…..the intermediate has triangular shaped tabs which are easier to sew than the advanced version’s curves PLUS it has a simpler back slip pocket where the advanced has a welt slip pocket. The interior configuration varies a little and the method of attaching the exterior zipper closure is also a little easier to follow! There are a few other minor differences which allow the intermediate sewer to more easily complete their bag compared to the advanced which is more challenging and time consuming.
Can’t decide which version to buy? You can also be be creative and use features from either version to make your own or why not make them both!
You can buy a bundle of both versions in my shop for just $2 more than the price of the advanced pattern! 🙂 Just click on either version and look for the bundle “Add to Cart” button!
Now I’d like to share with you some photos of my testers really awesome bags! I won’t babble on today about each one since it is after 1am when I am editing this and I need to get some sleep! LOLL Anyway, they are ALL fabulous and you can see that for yourself! 🙂

This pattern is just awesome! So many features to play with!!! Yummy! Your testers did a great job portraying the many looks the bag can have. I was also sad this morning not receiving a pattern of the month. It was so much fun. Great news to hear that is coming back next year; yey!!!
Love all the colorful version!!!
but Trish’s talks to me…must be the polkadots….love the teal & brown!!
P.S: Norma ..I was also sad not to receive a pattern this morning but I am also relieved I can finally catch up !! :-0
Thanks Norma! Yes….another FUN club next year to look forward to! Hmmmm just what shall I make for the next club!
LOL…I am beginning to wonder IF I will ever catch up with my to do list….it gets longer every day! LOLLL
The bags all look great. I love seeing how different each bag ends up looking with different colours and fabric choices.
My bag pics didn’t make it? 🙁
Hi Dee…..I don’t have any pics from you???? I have even gone back and searched again since you posted this comment! LOL I can’t find any! Are you sure you sent them??
Christine I hope you sell a lot of patterns for the City Slicker bag. It’s definitely one of my favorite bags. I have been using mine every day since I tested it for you in April. After seeing so many colors of this bag, I think I will make another one in blues.
I really like this bag, too, and I don’t normally carry a bag this large.
I agree with Daryl, I think a City Slicker in blue hues would be really nice. I also would like to make another one!
Christine! Are you giving us a HINT for next year? Will you be designing for the Bag of the Month Club? I didn’t do it this time, but I just watched to see how it would go, and it would definitely be something I would consider for next year!
I have been using it for months too Daryl….it is my favourite of all my bags too! LOLLL I really like how wide it opens so you can easily find stuff! It’s so much fun to see it in so many different fabrics…If I can find the time, I think I might have a crack at making it in Pleather….oh won’t that be fun! LOLLLL
Krista….I would give you a HINT if I knew myself! LOLLLLL Yes, I would like to do the club again next year….assuming of course, that Sara invites me to participate again! LOLL
